Zero Trust is the future of enterprise security, and organisations are beginning to embrace it thanks to its enhanced security and ability to improve flexibility and lower complexity concurrently.

Our survey, What’s Your Zero Trust Story?, aimed at understanding the enterprise perception of Zero Trust and the common approaches adopted today, revealed that increasing IT complexity is driving a rise in Zero Trust adoption. With over 65% of respondents claiming they have a Zero Trust component to their strategy or roadmap.

When deploying the Zero Trust model, it’s important not to look at the whole and deem it too big. If you consider it a journey of many steps, it’s thoroughly achievable, no matter what size enterprise you are. In fact, the study also found that over 60% already have key ingredients for Zero Trust with risk-based authentication or conditional access in place, meaning that organisations have the principal elements to start taking large quantities of risk out of the organisation with respect to the assets in use.

We also discovered a clear difference in corporate identity providers. With over half of respondents stating their corporate identity provider is in the cloud, while 39% is on-premise, a percentage we predict will continue shrinking moving forwards. The Cloud is becoming such a commodity solution that almost all organisations will continue to exploit it for all but a handful of very carefully managed cases. Very few companies wish to continue to manage identity and the complexity derived from it, preferring to take a packaged service that suits the majority need.
